EMDR is a non-invasive approach that can help to diminish and dismantle trauma experiences and negative beliefs that are locked in the body. It is a precise way forward for many who have been plagued with past circumstances in their lives.
Our bodies take in data through the five senses and the left and right sides of the brain have a conversation to processes this information. Once the data is processed, the information is stored away as memory as we continue on with our lives.
When something traumatic occurs, the conversation in the brain can stop. The experience can become frozen in the body. This trauma can be triggered in the future, causing people to feel anxious, unsafe, and can even shut them down, leaving them to question why this is happening.
Big "T" trauma can occur when people experience emotional distress through experiences such as physical, sexual, or emotional abuse, the death of a loved one, the tragedies seen at war, etc. which can lead to PTSD, depression, anxiety, etc.
Little "t" trauma can also leave emotionally disturbing imprints on people. These might not seem as tragic comparatively to Big "T" trauma, but if experienced consecutively over a long period of time, many Little "t"s can result in similar negative beliefs of Big "T" trauma.
EMDR is a construct which can help people diminish and/or resolve emotional distress and symptoms as a result of trauma and disturbing life circumstances. This therapeutic construct has helped people to get "unstuck" and move forward.
